The Process
There is a general process through which all design projects proceed, and these phase guildelines will help you better understand how it all works.
1. In-Home Consultation
The information gathering and analytical phase. This phase includes measuring the site, taking photographs if necessary, investigating the site conditions, and clearly defining the client's objectives. We will discuss your project, your budget and your ideas and expectations. This phase also allows us to fully examine and discover all wishes, tastes, likes and dislikes which will help direct the initial development of your project. By listening to you at this initial meeting, we are able to determine the "Scope of Services" for your project, which will be incorporated into the "Design Service Agreement." This initial meting is between one and two hours in length and is priced at $150.
2. The Design Service Agreement
The Design Service Agreement outlines the professional services and the terms & conditions that Tracy Garfield Interiors will provide to develop the plan for your project and bring it to completion. The Design Service Agreement contains information about the areas involved in the project, the specific design services TGI will perform, specification and purchasing agreements, supervision requirements, rights to photograph and third party services. A project estimate and/or design fee may also be prepared at this time. When the Design Service Agreement is signed by you and TGI, work can begin with the initial design studies in the "Schematic Design Phase."
3. Schematic Design
During this phase we begin to develop rough sketches and layout ideas for your project. We will also show you ideas for colors, materials and finishes and may suggest places for you to visit to aid in the process of narrowing your choices. During this phase we may have several meetings with you to get your feedback on ideas and to clarify the design concept. This may take two to three weeks and when we have your approval on the preliminary design, drawings and concepts, we move on to the "Design Development Phase" to further refine these ideas.
4. Design Development
Now the design is ready to be expanded and detailed. We get more specific with the selections of materials, finishes, and furnishings. You are shown more detailed drawings, material and color samples to illustrate the design concept. The length of this phase depends on the scope of the project. Some large renovations may be in the Design Development Phase for a few months. When the design is finalized, with complete specifications, we move on to the "Construction Documents Phase."
5. Construction Documents
At this stage, the specifications for your project are completed. We draft our plans in-house using a state of the art Revit software system. The space plans will show the rooms involved with the layout and size of all the furnishings.
*This phase depends on the scope of the project, not every project will require Construction Documents.
6. Design Administration
During this phase the results of all detailed design work comes to fruition. TGI completely coordinates the ordering, fabrication, delivery and installation of furnishings for you. At the end of this phase your project will be complete.
The Finalization of Your Project
When your project has been completed, we will do a post evaluation and may schedule a photo session to document the beautiful results!
